| » Lost workday injuries | » Supplier reject rate |
| » Inventory turnover | » Average setup time |
| » Employee turnover | » Equipment utilization |
| » Value added per employee | » Earnings before interest and taxes |
And MORE!
By attending this important meeting, you can measure your company against the industry’s best and get your company’s concerns heard by those representing our industry in California and Washington, D.C. The cost of the benchmarking study and government lobbying provides more than $200,000 of value to your company!
While PMA has been protecting our industry’s needs in Washington and CMC has been doing so in California, it is important that Mr. Gaskin and Mr. Simonelli hear your current issues at this meeting.
The Precision Metalforming Association (CA District) has been an ally of the California Metals Coalition (CMC) since 2003. CMC was established in 1972 and specializes in lobbying and government relations for California’s metalworking industry. CMC focuses solely on California regulations. Through this relationship, PMA members can join the CMC on issues impacting our companies.
Your support of PMA and CMC means that you have a seat at the rulemaking table. Nothing is more cost effective for your company than impacting a rule, before it becomes law.

Die Forensics
Date: Thursday, April 17, 2008
Location: Amada Plaza, 7025 Firestone Blvd., Buena Park, CA 90621 Phone: 714-735-5105
Schedule: 5:30 p.m.
Please invite your tool and die designers and all other employees you want to learn about die forensics to attend PMA’s California District April meeting.
This seminar was given at the 2007 METALFORM show in Chicago. Here is your opportunity to receive the same information given to those who paid hundreds of dollars to hear this presentation last year.
The program will help you identify different types of die failures and learn how to determine the root causes of failures in order to fix the problems at hand. Included will be photos of failures, and how to locate them and fix them, teaching you to look at die failures as a road map left behind from the failure of the tool. This will be the most informative meeting for your tool and die makers to attend this year; and it is right here in your own backyard.
The presenter is Steve Neece with Dayton Progress. Steve is one of the most knowledgeable people in the business, with 35 years of experience both on the bench and in the field. Steve is on the road much of the year helping our industry with its ongoing challenges of making tools better, stronger and longer lasting between scheduled maintenance. You won’t want to miss this meeting because Steve has presented some of the more interesting programs for California PMA members.

Join PMA’s California District on Friday, September 28 for a buffet breakfast, and hear Scott Schmidt, partner from Black Line Group, discuss how metal stampers CAN benefit from the R&D tax credit, and how PMA member companies they have worked with have generated on average an R&D Tax Credit of $165,000+. He also will reveal some of the most common oversights made when using this credit. Black Line Group specializes in the R&D tax credit for metalformers.
Discover how other metal stampers are achieving benefits such as:
- reducing their tax liabilities and improving cash flow;
- getting substantial amounts of cash back from the IRS, often $165k average;
- having activities that meet the very broad definition of R&D.
Attendees also will receive information on navigating the government marketplace from GSP Consulting Corp. which will advise attendees on how to:
- find/secure/handle documentation for new major subcontracting and procurement work;
- access state and federal grants and loans just like those received by all major corporations.
Small and medium-sized PMA member companies would have the same ability as the Boeings, Catepillars and GMs for funds, including government/military contracts/subcontracts, loans and grants.
How to go about securing public financing for start-up costs, growth, research and development, and capital improvements is a common denominator of fast growing companies. GSP Consulting brings together some of the best minds in government affairs, economic development, research and business to deliver growth strategies for its clients. The GSP has generated millions in new revenue for its clients at local, state and national levels.

District Roundtable For Senior Managers
THE MOST IMPORTANT MEETING YOU CAN ATTEND
Date: July 20, 2007
Location: Southern California Gas Company, Energy Resource Center (ERC), 9240 E. Firestone Blvd., Downey, CA 90241
Schedule: 8:00 - 11:00 a.m.
If you attend one PMA meeting this year, this is the ONE! This concise, informative session will cover three key areas impacting California metalformers. Expect this PMA session to help your company make tens of thousands of dollars or save tens of thousands of dollars. Because of the timeliness and pertinence to all California manufacturing; we are opening up this meeting to other interested manufacturing associations.
California’s Greenhouse Gas Law (AB 32): California is the nation’s first state to mandate the collection and reporting of greenhouse gas emissions data. AB 32 also mandates reductions of CO2 and other GHG emissions. How does this law impact you right now? Where are your sources of CO2? Where do you start? This workshop will be your up-to-date industry-specific resource on this timely issue.
California’s Warehousing Tax on Tooling and Patterns: The county wants your customer list. Holding your customers’ tooling is taxable. Without furnishing a customer list, you are liable to pay this tax. Assessments have been as high as $50,000. This workshop will feature strategies on this tax, how metalworking companies have battled the tax, how to deal with frustrated customers, preparing your facility/staff and much more.
California’s Industrial Storm Water Enforcement: Every metalforming facility in California must monitor storm water run-off, test the run-off for specified substances, and report these findings through a myriad of forms and filings. Lawsuit settlements for non-compliance average $75,000. And state enforcement for non-filers is up to $25,000 per day. This workshop will cover the latest lawsuits, enforcement and status of the state’s industrial storm water permit.
Senator Alan Lowenthal (D-27): There are only 40 state Senators casting votes in Sacramento. On July 20, state Senator Alan Lowenthal will meet our group and hear your issues during the final hour of the meeting. District 27 encompasses Bellflower, Cerritos, Downey, Long Beach, Lynwood and Paramount. Senator Lowenthal has introduced legislation for redistricting reform, and has been open to the issues impacting California’s manufacturers.
And finally we will be asking you to help us select from a list of pressing issues facing your company, what topics would interest or best serve your company and your employees. PMA will be joined by James Simonelli, executive director and chief lobbyist for the California Metals Coalition (CMC), and other metalworking companies from CMC at this roundtable. PMA has endorsed CMC since 2003, and works closely on California-specific issues for metalformers.
